Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information DryAcre collects when you visit dryacre.com, request a trial, buy a license, or run the DryAcre desktop application — and what we do with it. We keep this short and try to collect as little as possible.

Who we are

DryAcre is operated by Brandon Baer, a sole proprietor doing business as DryAcre, in the State of Illinois, United States. For data-protection purposes we are the controller of the information described here.

You can reach us about anything in this policy — including any request about your data — at support@dryacre.com. If you need a postal address for a formal data-protection request, email us and we will provide one.

Your field data stays on your computer. The DryAcre desktop application does all of its work on your own PC. Your elevation surveys, contours, watersheds, tile layouts, and drainage plans are never uploaded to us or anyone else. You do not need an account to use it. The application does make two small network requests — to check for updates and to activate a license — and exactly what those send is spelled out below.

What the desktop application sends

So there is no ambiguity, here is everything DryAcre-the-application transmits:

Checking for updates on startup and when you choose Check for Updates	A request to `updates.dryacre.com` for the update feed. This necessarily reveals your IP address and the version you are running. No account, license, or field data is included. You can point this at a local folder or turn it off entirely in Help ▸ Check for Updates.
Activating or renewing a license when you enter a license key in the app	Your license key, your email address, and a machine code — a non-reversible identifier derived from your computer's hardware, used to lock the license to your machines and to enforce the activation limit. It does not tell us who you are beyond the license it belongs to, and it is not used for tracking or advertising.
Everything else	Nothing. Import, analysis, routing, profiling, and export all happen locally. No telemetry, no usage analytics, no crash uploads, no field data.

Information you give us

When you request a free trial or buy a license, we collect what you enter on the form:

Name and email address — to send you the download link and, for a purchase, your license file and receipt.
State and acres farmed (optional) — to understand who our users are and improve the product.
Marketing consent — whether you opted in to occasional product-update emails.
Support correspondence — whatever you send us when you email for help.

Information collected automatically

Basic server logs — like most websites, our host records request metadata (IP address, browser type, timestamps) to keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
Download activity — when you use a download link, we record that it was used, when, and which installer version, tied to your request.
Anti-abuse checks — the trial form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which analyses your IP address and browser characteristics to tell people from bots. We see only its pass/fail result.
License records — for purchases, we store your license ID, purchase and maintenance dates, and the machine codes you have activated.

Cookies & tracking

We use no advertising cookies, no third-party analytics, and no cross-site tracking of any kind. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no profiling. The only cookies or equivalent storage that may be set are those strictly necessary to serve and secure the site, including Cloudflare's security and Turnstile protections. This is why you don't see a cookie banner.

Payments

Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle collects and processes your payment details, billing address, and tax location directly, as an independent controller under its own buyer terms and privacy notice. We never see or store your card number. From Paddle we receive confirmation of your order, your email address, and the country used for tax — enough to deliver and support your license.

How we use your information, and our legal basis

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers that operate this business, and only as needed to run it:

Cloudflare — website and API hosting, database, storage, email routing, and bot protection.
Resend — sending transactional and product-update emails.
Paddle — payment processing, as Merchant of Record.

We may also disclose information where required by law, or to establish or defend legal claims. If the DryAcre business is ever sold or transferred, customer records may transfer with it, subject to this policy.

International transfers

DryAcre is operated from the United States, and information you give us is processed there. If you are in the UK, EEA, or Switzerland, your information is transferred to the U.S. under the standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards maintained by our providers.

How long we keep it

Trial and marketing contacts — until you ask us to delete them, or after roughly 24 months of no activity.
License, order, and tax records — 7 years, to meet accounting and tax obligations. We keep these even if you ask for deletion of other data, because we are required to.
Server and security logs — short-term, per our providers' standard retention.
Support email — as long as needed to resolve your issue and handle any follow-up.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can email support@dryacre.com to access, correct, or delete your information, or to unsubscribe from update emails (every such email also carries an unsubscribe link). We will not treat you differently for exercising a right.

If you are in the UK, EEA, or Switzerland

You have the right to access your data; to have it corrected or erased; to restrict or object to how we process it; to receive it in a portable format; and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

If you are in California

You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it (described above), to request its deletion or correction, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide the product.

Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect the limited information we hold, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), access controls, and keeping secrets out of client-side code. Our local-first design means the most sensitive data — your field surveys and drainage plans — never leaves your machine and so is never at risk on our systems. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will notify you and any regulator as required by law.

Children

DryAcre is a professional tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be posted on this page, and where required we will notify you directly.
